About Me

I am an ordinary girl wanting what everybody wants. A good life that serves a purpose. I found out early in my life that writing was the only way I could express myself and explore the world and my mind without fear. I write because it gives me relief. It is my therapy, my outlet.

FROM A BEAUTIFUL SWAN TO AN UGLY DUCKLING

If you were to be a child and were allowed to choose to be a very beautiful child or an ugly duckling which would you choose? I don't know what I would choose. The thing is if you were a beautiful child there is going to be a lot of pressure to grow up into a beautiful man or woman. If you were an ugly child, well there wouldn't be any pressure and you could grow up to be either way. So now which one would you choose?

Once in high school I met this guy, we used to school together when we were little and he gave me that head to toe look then said, "not bad." I still blush when I think about it. So I asked, "why did you say not bad, kwani how was I in primary?" and he answered "You had chapad (hit) the wall." And I thought, aw! you didn't just say that to my face. He was hitting on me at the time and well after that comment I never saw him again-not literally, I mean he became like a married man to me-invisible. Thing is I also saw those changes he was talking about. I was growing into a swan. Now don't think of me as Cinderella I'm just saying things got better. When I was younger I used to have a big forehead, in fact what made my forehead distinct was that it seemed to have two very outstanding corners; the east and the west and my brother teased me about it all the time and I wept and wished it away. Guess what, one day it went away. See wishes do come true (wink). My forehead became normal.

What of those that are exactly opposite. You were the centre of attention when you were young and now people simply wonder what happened. You look like you were hit by the bus called life and it was one of those double decker's. I'm not hating trust me. We all think of those people, you meet them and that question is just larking in you brain but you know it would be inhumane to ask so you do the most humane thing, you let them go and whisper to your friends behind their backs.

If you ask me, the best person to be in the world is average, especially in the looks department. You average person just don't linger in people's minds. No one will be dying to see you in ten to twenty years and yet when they do see you they can't help but say, "not bad".
